The morning started with a training session in GPS usage.
Part of the exercises gave us a good familiarization with the surrounding of
Davis Station. The Vestfolds Hills are an amazing place. One of the largest ice
free areas in Antarctica with a vast amount of lakes. Some of them highly
saline and due to their salt content remain liquid all through winter. Deep
lake I believe the most saline lake is also located 55 m below sea-level.
Part of the rest of the day was spent outside, enjoying some sun shine and taking some pictures. Especially spectacular was the sun-set. The sun was going down behind a light cloud cover with sun rays cascading down through gaps in the clouds.
